Visiting Dzongs, Monastaries and Festivals

Not all religious establishments are open to outside visitors but they still get a good insight into Kingdom’s unique cultural heritage. This measure is to ensure that monastic life can continue unhindered.

The following dzongs, monastaries, and festivals are open to visitors:

Thimphu:
Tashichhodzong (open in winter months when the monks are in Punakha), Thimphu tsechu, Memorial Chorten, Changlimethang Lhakhang

Paro:
Paro tshechu, Ta Dzong (National Museum),Drukgyel Dzong

Punakha Dzong:
Punakha Dzong (open in summer months when the monks are in Thimphu), Punakha Dromchen

Wangdiphodrang:
Wangdiphodrang Tshechu

Trongsa:
Trongsa Tshechu, Chendbji Chorten, Ta Dzong

Bumthang:
Jakar Dzong, Member Tsho, Peling Sermon Chorten, Ura Lhakhang,Kurje Tshechu, Nemalung Tshehcu, Tamshing Phala Choepa, Tangbi Mani, Jambey Lhakhang Drup, Prakar Tshechu

Mongar:
Mongar Tshechu

Tashigang:
Tashigang Tshechu, Zangtho Pelri, Kanglung Lhakhang, Khaling Lhakhang, Radhi Lhakhang, Tashiyangtse Dzong
